NOMINATION FORM FOR EXHIBITION
Margaret Russel, the Winner of the 2018 September Art Exhibition Competition – A Recognisable Capricorn Coast Seascape
Margaret Russell was awarded 1st place in the Competition section of the 2018 September Art Exhibition for her work titled “The Jetty” depicting the jetty at Fisherman’s Beach in Emu Park. This work also received the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for the entire Exhibition.
Margaret explained why she chose the jetty scene:
“We frequently visit the beaches of the Capricorn Coast to walk and enjoy the natural beauty of this area so close at hand. On one of our late afternoon walks along Fisherman’s Beach, Emu Park, the sun was shining on the jetty and rocks, creating a soft afternoon glow and feeling of warmth.
In my painting of the scene I have tried to evoke the feeling of warmth and contentment that I felt. Emu Park is my favourite place on the coast and I have many happy memories of time spent there.”
Along with Margaret’s outstanding work was an impressive display of many other paintings from the Rockhampton Branch artists. Prizes were awarded in various categories and the artists’ pride in their achievements was well justified. An excellent Exhibition by all reports.
