In mid-2016 I enrolled in a short course (12 hours over 6 weeks) in ‘Basic Botanicals Watercolour’, while working in Melbourne. The course was run by an impressive young artist, Jessie Ford, who produces truly amazing botanical watercolours. In the following months, on completion of the course, I drew and painted in watercolour every opportunity I could.
In September, 2016, upon returning home to Rockhampton, I entered a small watercolour in the Challenge Section of the RQAS Rockhampton Branch Exhibition and was awarded the Judge’s Commendation. My enjoyment of watercolour painting had become an undeniable passion at this point.
I strive for realism in my work, which I realise is not common with many watercolourists striving for a looser more fluid style. I have not yet achieved a painting I am completely happy with, but that may merely be my excuse to keep painting.
I am most appreciative of the skills shared and the encouragement of the RQAS Rockhampton Branch members. A wonderful learning environment.
