Royal Queensland Art Society (Rockhampton Branch)

Welcome, to the Royal Queensland Art Society (Rockhampton Branch) Inc website. The RQAS Rockhampton Branch is one of three branches of the Royal Queensland Art Society Inc, the others being Brisbane and Gold Coast Branches. The RQAS Inc is a not for profit organisation established in 1885,  becoming an incorporated organisation in 2005.

RQAS members of the Rockhampton Branch regularly meet, hold workshops, exhibitions and create art in Room 1.1 at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre building on the corner of Derby and East Streets, Rockhampton, Central Queensland. The building is a wonderfully creative historical landmark. The club room is light, bright and well appointed. It incorporates the renowned Upstairs Gallery, a great space to display members’ work. We welcome new members and invite amateurs and professionals alike to support each other on our creative journeys.

In regional Queensland it can sometimes be difficult for artists to network with each other, to grow in their skills, define their style, share and gain knowledge and to find a space to exhibit their work. The RQAS is indeed such a place, and has been an important group for local artists for over 60 years. The Rockhampton Branch is very welcoming of Western Queensland country artists and those located in the Capricorn Region.
